Program Officer End Sexual Violence Justice for Girls
Naitore Nyamu-Mathenge joined Equality Now in March 2016. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a human rights lawyer who is passionate about advocating for the rights of women and girls. Prior to joining Equality Now, Naitore worked as a Gender and Women’s Human Rights Consultant with various organizations. Additionally, Naitore was a Program Associate for Access to Justice at Coalition on Violence Against Women. She also served as a Legal Officer of Women’s Empowerment Link (WEL) in Nairobi, where she offered legal advice to various clients and facilitated trainings on human rights, family law, the Constitution and Gender-Based Violence. In 2011, she was voted the most effective and result-oriented employee of the year at WEL. Naitore holds a M.A. in International Relations from the United States International University; a Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law; a Bachelor of Laws from the University of South Africa; and a B.A. in Political Science and Government from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
Naitore believes in shaping a world, where women thrive and enjoy all their rights. For her, laws are indicative to the government’s accountability of protecting the girls’ rights. Naitore is inspired by her mother, Zipporah Nyamu. Her favorite quote is by Marriane Williamson: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.”
In her free time, Naitore enjoys, reading, swimming and travelling.
