Executive Assistant to the Global Strategy Team
Michelle Chioma Okwudiafor joined Equality Now in July 2018 as Executive Assistant to the Global Strategy Team, working alongside the Directors of Programs, Marketing/Communications to coordinate strategy development and program implementation.
She holds an M.A. in Development Management from the Turin School of Development, (International Training Center of the ILO), Italy and an LL.B (Law) from the University of London. She is also a 2012 MasterCard Foundation Scholar at the University of New Hampshire, Sustainable Microfinance and Development Program.
In the last 10 years, she has worn many hats working across the charity, legal, microfinance and bilateral trade sectors in the UK, Nigeria and the USA. Most recently, Michelle worked for the Oando Foundation managing an Educate a Child Qatar funded project in North Eastern Nigeria. She was responsible for coordination, communications and project management for the Adopt –A-School project focused on the education of marginalised girls and reintegrating out of school children affected by conflict. She has also worked with the FCO UK Trade & Investment Department, the Microcapital Monitor, PUNUKA Attorneys & Solicitors.
Growing up in Nigeria, Michelle has seen first-hand the devastating effects of poverty and patriarchy. She believes that education is the key to unlocking poverty and empowering women and girls. Michelle comes from a generation of strong willed African women who taught her that with determination, the sky is only your starting point. She is particularly inspired by this quote “We who have means and a voice must use them to help those who have neither.”
Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with family, travelling, writing and fashion.
