2 AUG 2017 UPDATE: SUCCESS! Following the Lower House of Parliament's historic 1 August vote for the full repeal of Article 308 from Jordan's Penal Code, today the Senate approved as well! Once the King signs, rapists and other sexual abusers who marry their victims will no longer escape punishment for their crimes -- with no exceptions for age. Congratulations to all the activists and parliamentarians who worked tirelessly for years to make this happen! This will set another good example in the Arab region and encourage reform in other countries including Iraq, Lebanon, Bahrain, Kuwait and Palestine that still have these discriminatory legal provisions.
