Asia Associate, End Sex Trafficking
Jennifer Wells-Qu joined Equality Now as the Asia Associate for the End Sex Trafficking Program in August 2018. Based in Beijing, China, Jen is finishing her Master’s thesis on sex trafficking and prostitution in Asia as Yenching Scholar at Peking University. She previously worked in Equality Now’s New York office as the Executive Assistant to the Global Executive Director. Jen received her B.A. in Gender and Sexuality Studies and East Asian Studies from the University of Chicago.
Raised by a single mom who never let anything hold her back, Jen has always been keenly aware that not every woman gets the opportunities that her mother fought so hard for her to have. She believes that good laws not only protect you legally, but also influence culturally prescribed gender roles. She is inspired by women like Xinran, who has boldly shared the diverse and often heartbreaking stories from women's lives across China. Her favorite quote is from an anonymous source: "A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because her trust is not on the branch but on her own wings.”
Outside the office you can find Jen traveling, dancing and fostering animals.
