Program Officer End Sex Trafficking
Anita Nyanjong joined Equality Now in July 2017. She has 10 years of experience in designing programs on sexual and gender based violence, girls’ education and empowerment and women's access to justice. Prior to joining Equality Now, Anita worked as a Programme Manager, Access to Justice at the Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists. She has also led advocacy initiatives before regional and international treaty body mechanisms, and has served as a member of the Kenyan Judicial Taskforce on Informal Justice Mechanisms. Anita is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of the Federation of Women Lawyers of Kenya. She holds a Bachelor of Law degree (Honors) from Moi University in Kenya and a Master’s in Public International Law and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights of Women from Queen Mary, University of London International Programmes in the UK. Anita speaks English, French and Swahili.
Anita has a passion for women’s and girl’s rights, specifically using the law to address structural inequalities and gender discrimination. As the eldest in a family of five daughters, Anita is inspired by her mother, a teacher and an advocate for women and girls’ empowerment. Her favorite quote is from Michelle Obama: “No country can ever truly flourish if it stifles the potential of its women and deprives itself of the contributions of half its citizens.”
Outside the office, Anita enjoys watching documentaries, reading biographies and drives in the park.
