South Sudan Lawyer’s and Human Rights Defender’s Training

Equality Now and the Solidarity for African Women’s Rights (SOAWR) Coalition, in partnership with the South Sudan Law Society (SSLS) and Support the Empowerment of Women and their Rights for Development Organization (STEWARD-ORG), will train South Sudanese lawyers and human rights defenders on the effective use of regional and international instruments in strategic litigation to advance women and girls’ rights. Discussions on culture, equality and non-discrimination, and the economic, social and cultural rights of women will also be prioritized during the two-day session.

Survivors, NGOs, police and politicians from Germany and across Europe will come together to discuss the realities of prostitution, the negative effects of legalization of the prostitution industry in Germany and the benefits of a human rights and gender equality-based approach ('Nordic Model ') at this conference. Trafficking Program Officer Andrea Matolcsi  will present Equality Now’s work to target demand and decriminalize women in prostitution as part of an “International Initiatives” panel. Reversible: Narrating Identity from the Inside Out and Outside In

Global Executive Director Yasmeen Hassan  will moderate a panel on “The Artist & Society” at this three day conference hosted by NYU Abu Dhabi. Funeral Services for Efua Dorkenoo, OBE

Funeral services for our friend and colleague Efua Dorkenoo , OBE, who passed away on 18 October, will be held at 11:00am at Wesley’s Chapel & Leysian Mission. A reception following the burial will take place at Cavendish Banqueting Suite, FCI House starting at 4:00pm. A memorial for Efua is also being planned for February 2015. Rest in peace, Efua.
