Lisa Alter

Lisa Alter is a partner in the firm of Alter & Kendrick, LLP in New York City, focusing primarily in the area of copyright law and with a particular emphasis on domestic and international music and literary copyright issues.  She has lectured frequently at law schools and professional meetings on copyright matters, and is the author of “Protecting Your Musical Copyrights,” which has recently been released in its third edition. From July 2003 to August 2011, Ms. Alter was President of Girls Learn International, Inc., a non-profit organization that she co-founded in 2003 with her daughters Arielle and Jordana Confino.  Girls Learn International, a service-learning initiative engaging middle and high school students in the efforts for universal girls’ education and human rights, currently has more than 84 chapters in middle and high schools throughout the northeastern United States.   In 2007, Lisa was awarded the NOW NYC Susan B. Anthony Award for her work on behalf of women and girls.  She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Girls Learn International Advisory Board to the Feminist Majority Foundation, President and Director of the Shana Alexander Charitable Foundation, and is also Co-president of the Fire Island Synagogue in Seaview, Fire Island.  She is a past member of the Board of the Child Care Action Committee and World of Children. Ms. Alter is a graduate of Wesleyan University and New York University School of Law.
