Munona Chinyanta – Mulyasanga

Finance & Accounting Manager, UK

Munona Chinyanta – Mulyasanga joined Equality Now in March 2022. She manages the Financial Accounting aspects of the UK and US offices, and work in collaboration with the Accounting teams in Kenya and Lebanon. She work closely with the Development and Programmes teams ensuring that Financial Accounts are reported according to reporting standards.

She was born and brought up in Zambia, and is currently based in the United Kingdom. She speaks English and Bemba.

Munona holds a Bachelor’s of Accountancy from the Copperbelt University, Zambia and a Master of Agribusiness Management from Rome Business School, Italy. She is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). She has more than 15 years experience in the not for profit sector supporting various causes such as helping the elderly to stay independent in their own homes; improving the lives of people affected by cancer and spreading the word of God through the radio and other media.

In her early childhood, her mother became a widow and a victim of property grabbing. This was a horrible experience: Munona explains that no woman should go through such a nightmare and be brought down to nothing. Her mother braved a lot of challenges thereafter; she was a strong and resilient woman. She is Munona’s hero.

Munona is inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem “Still I Rise!” as it talks about the perseverance and resilience which are some of the values of Equality Now.

In her free time, she spends spring and summer with her family at the allotment where they grow vegetables. She also enjoys doing voluntary projects: Munona works with Matender Center in Kawambwa, and Umoya Trust in Zambia and she is currently assisting some Zambian women in a farming cooperative with financial planning.
