John Gbenagnon

West Africa Consultant, End Harmful Practices


John has worked as a West Africa Communications Consultant with Equality Now since April 2021, working closely with both the Communications and End Harmful Practices teams to create and nurture a network of strategic communication and media allies in West Africa working together to end female genital mutilation.

Based in the Republic of Benin, John speaks French and English. John joins Equality Now from the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS), where he worked as Communication Director in an EU Project related to the African Human Rights Mechanisms. Previously, he was the Project Manager at a Benin-based non-profit. He has consulted for a variety of international organizations, including AMERITECH Benin, CIDH Africa, and Réseau des Femmes Leaders pour le Développement (RFLD). John holds hold a Degree in Communication from Université Polytechnique Internationale Dr OBIANG NGUEMA NBASOGO.

John’s favorite quote is from Wangari Maathai, “All of us have a God in us, and that God is the spirit that unites all life, everything that is on this planet.”

Outside of work, John enjoys reading, writing, travel, and sports.
