Hend joined Equality Now in November 2021 as Senior Development Manager. Playing a key leadership role in the Development Department, Hend oversees Equality Now’s individual giving team. Hend works closely with the network of major donors who support us, deepening their engagement with our work.
Born in Sana’a, Yemen, Hend is currently based between Amman, Jordan, and Washington, DC. She speaks Arabic and English.
Although Hend studied English Literature, she found her true passion in the nonprofit humanitarian space. She finds joy in connecting philanthropists with worthy missions to bring about positive change in the world. Over the past ten years, Hend has worked for many international organizations and gained extensive experience enhancing operational efficiency, designing effective go-to-market strategies, and boosting revenue across various giving streams.
Hend’s outlook on feminism and gender equality was shaped early and inspired by many courageous women who chose to stand up to repressive social norms and traditions like the famous Persian poet Tahirih. Tahirih was an exemplar of women’s strength in Persia when most women were kept illiterate and hidden from the public sphere. In 1852, at the age of 38, Tahirih was executed for her beliefs and activities. Her last recorded words were, “You can kill me as soon as you like, but you will never stop the emancipation of women.”
When not fundraising, Hend enjoys baking brownies, hiking trails, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
