Alexandra Patsalides

Global Legal Advisor

Alexandra Patsalides is an international human rights lawyer and is Equality Now’s Global Legal Advisor. In this role, she is responsible for advancing the organisation’s vision in holding governments to account for their international commitments to protect women and girls from gender-based violence, harmful practices and sexual exploitation, and she provides advice on how to use international law and human rights mechanisms to advance gender equality for all women and girls.

Alexandra joined Equality Now in March 2018 and has experience in advocating for greater access to justice for victims/survivors of gender-based violence and marginalised communities in Kosovo, collaborating with European Union institutions on criminal justice and fundamental rights legislative instruments, and provided technical legal expertise to the UN bi-communal working group in Cyprus. She read Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and earned a Masters in Public International Law and Human Rights at University College London (UCL). She was called to the Cyprus Bar in 2011.

Alexandra coordinates our submissions to international treaty bodies and has contributed to many of Equality Now’s pioneering reports, including:

– Roadblocks to Justice: How the Law Is Failing Survivors of Sexual Violence in Eurasia
– Effectively Investigating, Prosecuting And Adjudicating Sexual Violence Cases: A Manual For Practitioners In Georgia

– Guide To Advocating For Women’s Rights Using International Human Rights Mechanisms

Alexandra draws inspiration from all the incredible women she has had the privilege of working with over the years. Outside work, Alexandra enjoys reading to her daughter, having coffee by the sea and road trips.
