Saudi Arabia is violating women's nationality rights - Equality Now joint submission to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women 69th pre-sessional working group July 2017
A submission in advance of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women’s (CEDAW) discussion on Saudi Arabia at its 69th pre-sessional working group
24th - 28th July 2017 (pre-sessional working group)
The submission addresses our concern about the gender discrimination against Saudi women who are denied the right to confer nationality on their children and spouses on an equal basis with men, with severe consequences for women and their families. The submission focuses on continued violations of women’s nationality rights in Saudi Arabia in direct violation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
The Committee referenced this submission in their Concluding Observations following the 69th session held in March 2018.
