Program Officer End Sex Trafficking
Romina Canessa joined Equality Now in May 2017. Previously, she served as an expert on developing global access to justice mechanisms, most notably helping to launch and implement the first alternative dispute resolution center in Kabul, Afghanistan. Prior to that, she worked in Peru on anti-corruption, judicial and electoral reform projects, including promoting the role of women in politics. She holds a Juris Doctor Degree in Law from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York and a Bachelor of Science Degree in International Politics from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
Romina is inspired by all the women who came before her, because without them she would not be where she is today. Romina wants women and girl's everywhere to think of equality in their lives as a given and not something they have to fight for. Through the law, she believes we can make meaningful social change. Her favorite quote is by Khalil Gibran, “Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolution.”
Outside of the office, Romina enjoys reading, watching movies and TV shows, travel and baking.
