United States – joint submission to the Human Rights Committee (CCPR) 125th Session March 2019

The submission deals with our concern about the discrimination and inequality faced by women in the United States in contravention of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (“ICCPR”). In particular, we are concerned with: 1) the need for equality of women to be explicitly enshrined in the U.S. Constitution; 2) child marriage; 3) protection from sexual harassment and violence at secondary schools; 4) female genital mutilation; and 5) online sexual exploitation.

The Committee referenced this submission in their Concluding Observations.

Submitted by: Equality Now, the United States End FGM/C Network, and the ERA Coalition
