Grace Uwizeye

Program Officer

End Harmful Practices

Grace Uwizeye joined Equality Now in 2009, after having worked as a consultant in 2008. She previously interned with the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva where she reviewed country periodic reports and conducted research and preparation for human rights treaty bodies meetings. She also interned with the Refugee Council Organisation and the British Red Cross Refugee Unit in London, where she assisted women asylum seekers with their accommodation and subsistence applications, and provided advice on asylum and appeal processes and employment benefits. Grace holds a Master of Laws in human rights and social justice from London Metropolitan University, and a Bachelor of Laws from Wolverhampton University in the UK.

At age 13, Grace witnessed several women and girls who were physically and sexually abused. She carries these cases with her every day, believing that only laws can protect women and girls as well as enforce justice and punishment. Grace’s shero is her mother who, at age 77, is still fighting for equality. Her favorite quote is by Gloria Steinem: “Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.”

Outside of the office, Grace enjoys sports, dancing and discovering and experiencing new cultures.
