Barbara Trapani joined Equality Now in June 2017. Barbara has extensive and proven leadership in monitoring, evaluation and research, organizational learning (MERL) and knowledge management, gender and social exclusion. She previously worked at Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) where she held several positions, most recently, as head of Monitoring Evaluation and Research, where she developed a global results framework for use across 24 countries. Prior to that, she worked on understanding and measuring the impact of policy research at the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). A native of Italy, she has held positions around the world including in Bangladesh, Namibia, Kenya, Vietnam, Cambodia and Mongolia. She has a post graduate degree in International Relations and Cooperation from the International Labour Organisation, Italy and a Masters in Political Philosophy from the University of Turin.
For Barbara, it is critical that laws are developed and used as instruments of justice so that women and girls can realize their full rights. Her sheroes are Arundhati Roy, Hannah Arendt and Nina Simone. Her favorite quote is by Rosa Luxembourg, "I want to affect people like a clap of thunder...to inflame their minds with the breadth of my vision, the strength of my conviction and the power of my expression."
Outside of the office, Barbara enjoys mountaineering, horticulture and reading.
