Institutional​ ​Giving​ ​Manager



Equality​ ​Now​ ​is​ ​seeking​ ​a​ ​fundraising​ ​professional​ ​with​ ​experience​ ​managing​ ​a​ ​portfolio​ ​of​ ​institutional funders​ ​(particularly​ ​foundations)​ ​providing​ ​support​ ​at​ ​the​ ​six-​ ​and​ ​seven-figure​ ​level.​ ​Reporting​ ​to​ ​the Director​ ​of​ ​Development,​ ​this​ ​position​ ​will​ ​be​ ​a​ ​key​ ​member​ ​of​ ​the​ ​organization’s​ ​development​ ​team, working​ ​closely​ ​with​ ​the​ ​Director​ ​of​ ​Programs,​ ​executive​ ​leadership,​ ​and​ ​staff​ ​across​ ​all​ ​regions,​ ​managing​ ​a portfolio​ ​of​ ​institutional​ ​donors​ ​and​ ​prospects​ ​and​ ​cultivating​ ​new​ ​relationships.​ ​They​ ​will​ ​ensure​ ​the development​ ​of​ ​compelling​ ​proposals​ ​and​ ​reports,​ ​drive​ ​clarity​ ​in​ ​roles​ ​and​ ​responsibilities​ ​to​ ​ensure​ ​Equality Now​ ​is​ ​fulfilling​ ​grant​ ​requirements,​ ​ensure​ ​organizational​ ​compliance​ ​with​ ​deadlines​ ​and​ ​other​ ​donor requirements​ ​and​ ​expectations,​ ​and​ ​have​ ​or​ ​develop​ ​a​ ​deep​ ​understanding​ ​of​ ​trends​ ​in​ ​the​ ​funding​ ​landscape to​ ​effectively​ ​manage​ ​Equality​ ​Now’s​ ​institutional​ ​funding​ ​strategy.​ ​This​ ​role​ ​manages​ ​a​ ​Grants​ ​Officer​ ​based in​ ​our​ ​Nairobi​ ​office.

With partners and supporters in nearly every country in the world, and staff in New York, London, Nairobi, Amman and Washington, D.C., Equality Now advocates locally, nationally and internationally to advance Legal Equality and Justice for Girls, and to End Sex Trafficking, Sexual Violence and Harmful Practices, including female genital mutilation (FGM) and "child marriage."


  • Serve​ ​as​ ​the​ ​relationship​ ​manager​ ​for​ ​all​ ​institutional​ ​funders,​ ​driving​ ​Equality​ ​Now’s​ ​strategy​ ​to secure​ ​and​ ​maintain​ ​significant​ ​support​ ​from​ ​major​ ​institutional​ ​funders​ ​(currently​ ​50-75%​ ​of​ ​the organization’s​ ​$6M​ ​annual​ ​budget)​ ​through​ ​grants​ ​of​ ​$50,000​ ​or​ ​more,​ ​ideally​ ​through​ ​multi-year commitments;
  • Work​ ​closely​ ​with​ ​program​ ​staff,​ ​led​ ​by​ ​the​ ​Director​ ​of​ ​Programs​ ​and​ ​Global​ ​Monitoring, Evaluation,​ ​Research​ ​and​ ​Learning​ ​(MERL)​ ​Specialist,​ ​to​ ​edit​ ​narratives​ ​and​ ​detailed​ ​budgets developed​ ​by​ ​program​ ​staff​ ​to​ ​frame​ ​the​ ​best​ ​and​ ​most​ ​compelling​ ​ask​ ​in​ ​alignment​ ​with organizational​ ​priorities;
  • Assist​ ​program​ ​staff​ ​with​ ​creating​ ​and​ ​submitting​ ​required​ ​stewardship​ ​materials,​ ​including​ ​tracking deadlines,​ ​writing​ ​narratives,​ ​ensuring​ ​spenddown​ ​and​ ​accurate​ ​reporting​ ​of​ ​funds,​ ​and​ ​collecting ancillary​ ​materials;
  • Proactively​ ​track​ ​trends​ ​in​ ​institutional​ ​funding​ ​and​ ​monitor​ ​giving​ ​to​ ​like-minded​ ​organizations, identifying​ ​and​ ​researching​ ​new​ ​institutional​ ​funding​ ​prospects​ ​to​ ​develop​ ​a​ ​pipeline​ ​of​ ​support;
  • Accurately​ ​track​ ​cultivation​ ​and​ ​stewardship​ ​needs​ ​for​ ​donors​ ​in​ ​their​ ​portfolio,​ ​implementing cultivation​ ​activities​ ​(including​ ​but​ ​not​ ​limited​ ​to​ ​arranging​ ​and/or​ ​attending​ ​meetings,​ ​creating informal​ ​updates,​ ​facilitating​ ​event​ ​invitations),​ ​either​ ​personally​ ​or​ ​by​ ​providing​ ​appropriate​ ​support to​ ​Equality​ ​Now​ ​executives​ ​and​ ​program​ ​staff;
  • For​ ​each​ ​grant​ ​successfully​ ​secured,​ ​ensure​ ​clarity​ ​in​ ​roles,​ ​responsibilities​ ​and​ ​project​ ​timelines​ ​to ensure​ ​fulfillment​ ​of​ ​and​ ​compliance​ ​with​ ​grant​ ​requirements;
  • Develop​ ​and​ ​manage​ ​annual​ ​and​ ​multi-year​ ​institutional​ ​funding​ ​projections;
  • Institutionalize​ ​knowledge​ ​about​ ​donor​ ​relationships​ ​using​ ​Raiser’s​ ​Edge​ ​NXT​ ​and​ ​other​ ​available systems;
  • Develop​ ​a​ ​robust​ ​network​ ​of​ ​programmatic,​ ​finance,​ ​communications,​ ​and​ ​development​ ​colleagues to​ ​achieve​ ​all​ ​required​ ​outcomes;
  • Effectively​ ​manage​ ​a​ ​Grants​ ​Officer​ ​to​ ​enhance​ ​Equality​ ​Now’s​ ​capacity​ ​to​ ​successfully​ ​secure support​ ​from​ ​institutional​ ​funders​ ​in​ ​alignment​ ​with​ ​all​ ​of​ ​the​ ​above;
  • Contribute​ ​to​ ​fundraising​ ​strategy​ ​discussions,​ ​including​ ​annual​ ​development​ ​plans,​ ​events​ ​and campaigns;
  • Travel​ ​locally​ ​and​ ​regionally​ ​and​ ​work​ ​evenings​ ​and​ ​weekends​ ​as​ ​necessary;​ ​and
  • Perform​ ​other​ ​related​ ​duties​ ​as​ ​assigned.



  • Minimum​ ​of​ ​five​ ​years​ ​of​ ​progressively​ ​responsible​ ​fundraising​ ​experience,​ ​with​ ​at​ ​least​ ​three​ ​years’ experience​ ​focused​ ​on​ ​growing​ ​and​ ​securing​ ​support​ ​from​ ​high-capacity​ ​institutional​ ​funders;

  • A​ ​proven​ ​track​ ​record​ ​of​ ​closing​ ​gifts​ ​of​ ​$50K​ ​or​ ​more;
  • Advanced​ ​interpersonal​ ​skills,​ ​able​ ​to​ ​work​ ​effectively,​ ​collaboratively​ ​​ ​and​ ​respectfully​ ​in​ ​a​ ​fast-paced environment​ ​with​ ​diverse​ ​co-workers​ ​in​ ​a​ ​relatively​ ​small​ ​organization​ ​and​ ​with​ ​colleagues internationally;
  • Familiarity​ ​with​ ​or​ ​willingness​ ​to​ ​become​ ​an​ ​expert​ ​in​ ​the​ ​institutional​ ​funding​ ​landscape;
  • Some​ ​prior​ ​knowledge​ ​of​ ​or​ ​experience​ ​in​ ​the​ ​human​ ​rights​ ​and/or​ ​international​ ​development​ ​sectors;
  • Able​ ​to​ ​work​ ​and​ ​thrive​ ​in​ ​a​ ​team​ ​setting;
  • Track​ ​record​ ​of​ ​accomplishment​ ​in​ ​achieving​ ​fundraising​ ​and/or​ ​business​ ​goals;
  • Excellent​ ​verbal​ ​and​ ​written​ ​communications​ ​skills;
  • Fluency​ ​in​ ​reading​ ​budgets​ ​and​ ​able​ ​to​ ​craft​ ​project​ ​budgets​ ​based​ ​on​ ​organizational​ ​priorities;
  • Results-oriented,​ ​able​ ​to​ ​effectively​ ​manage​ ​complex​ ​processes,​ ​highly​ ​organized;
  • Sense​ ​of​ ​humor;​ ​​and
  • Bachelor's​ ​degree​ ​required.


  • Experience​ ​with​ ​(or​ ​willingness​ ​to​ ​learn​ ​and​ ​utilize)​ ​Moves​ ​Management;
  • Experience​ ​in​ ​closing​ ​gifts​ ​of​ ​$100K​ ​or​ ​more​ ​and​ ​multi-year​ ​commitments;
  • Knowledge​ ​of​ ​Raiser’s​ ​Edge​ ​NXT,​ ​Microsoft​ ​office​ ​and​ ​donor​ ​research​ ​techniques;​ ​and
  • Cross-cultural/international​ ​experience.
