Katherine Payne

Digital Campaign Officer

Katherine Payne joined Equality Now in April 2018. Katherine has extensive experience in communications and innovation in the charity sector. She began her career in fundraising, before joining the Royal London Society for Blind People (RLSB), supporting young blind people to campaign on the issues that mattered to them, from transport and technology to employment and access to voting. She went on to co-found Wayfindr, a collaboration between digital product studio ustwo and RLSB, creating a global standard to enable vision impaired people to navigate using their smart phones. This sparked her continuing interest in social technology, and the opportunities and challenges these innovations bring to charities and non profits. Katherine has a B.A. in Fine Art from Central St Martins.

Katherine was inspired to fight for women's rights by her parents, who encouraged conversations about feminism and the patriarchy from a young age. She believes that we all need to be better at recognizing the impact of the law across our societies and behaviors, so that we can understand what needs to change to move forwards. Katherine is inspired by the women around her who continue to astound her with their strength and resolve. Her favorite quote is from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's: “My own definition is a feminist is a man or a woman who says, yes, there’s a problem with gender as it is today and we must fix it, we must do better. All of us, women and men, must do better.”

Outside of the office, Katherine enjoys trips to the seaside, attempting knitting and gardening and spending time with family and friends.
