Grants Officer Africa Office
Isabella Muthoni joined Equality Now in January 2017. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a feminist lawyer and a champion for women’s human rights and equality. Previously, she worked as a Legal Officer with the Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Justice in Kenya through the National Legal Aid and Awareness Programme (NALEAP). Prior to NALEAP, Isabella worked at Akiba Uhaki Foundation in Kenya and the Democratic Governance Facility in Uganda. Throughout her career, Isabella has made meaningful contribution to fighting and upholding the rights of girls and women, especially to the victims of human rights abuses in fragile and conflict- affected areas. Isabella holds a Bachelor Degree of Laws from Kampala International University in Uganda and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law. She is also an Empower Women 2016-17 Global Community Champion for change for Women Economic Empowerment.
Isabella believes that it is possible to achieve gender equality by 2030 as set by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Through her blog, IAMGOAL5, she showcases work done by governments, organizations and individuals to end gender inequality and close the gender gap by 2030. Her favorite quotes are by Michelle Obama: “The measure of any society is how it treats its women and girls” and Martin Luther King, Jr.: “Injustice anywhere is threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
Outside the office, Isabella enjoys the outdoors, going on adventures and trying new recipes.
