7 ways to support International Day of the Girl Child

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl Child, celebrated on October 11 each year. The day celebrates the collective effort by changemakers and advocates working to create equality for girls around the world. With your support we will continue to shine a spotlight on the issues and gaps in the law that represent the greatest threats to the girls and women we love most.

1. Set up a monthly gift to Equality Now

Since 1992, we’ve been changing the law, and the lives of women and girls around the world. But none of that would be possible without our incredible network of supporters. To help celebrate International Day of the Girl Child, consider donating $20 a month and helping support our global team of human rights lawyers and advocates.

2. Fundraise with your workplace

Fundraising for a cause is a great way to increase employee engagement. Working-from-home has brought with it an array of virtual fundraising opportunities that can facilitate team building while also helping to promote equality for women and girls around the world. A few of our favorite ideas include organizing a virtual happy hour, trivia night, or book club. Don’t forget to ask your employer whether they can match your donation.

Find out more about fundraising or go ahead and set up your JustGiving page.

3. Stream for equality

Start gaming for gender equality! Charity livestreams are one of the fastest-growing methods of fundraising, and with your help, you can help raise awareness and funds in critical support for girls. You can easily add a fundraising widget to your gaming or vlogging livestreams thanks to our partner Tiltify.

Tiltify is compatible with Twitch, Facebook Live, and other streaming platforms.

4. Fundraise on social media

Support Equality Now and celebrate International Day of the Girl Child by encouraging your friends, family, and wider network to donate to Equality Now on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. Why not set up a Facebook or Instagram fundraiser to honor International Day of the Girl Child? You can even add a donate button directly to your Instagram or Facebook live stream.

5. Wear your feminism on your sleeve

If misogyny bores you and you want to show the world, head to our Make Equality Reality store. You can shop our range of unique and sustainable feminist apparel, accessories, and decor!  Our plastic-free packaging ships around the world and makes the perfect gift for the feminists in your life (or yourself!).

6. Explore feminist books, films and podcasts

Here at Equality Now, we’re always talking about the books and films that shaped us as feminists, and there’s always more to learn. Why not host a watch party or book club and learn with your friends?

Check out our Feminist Culture Club for recommendations of books, films, and podcasts to get you started.

7. Start a conversation about girls’ rights

There’s no such thing as too many conversations about gender equality, so why not use the day to start a conversation and reflect on the progress that’s been made around the world. You could be the spark that leads someone to join our movement for change and to help improve the lives of girls around the globe.
