Equality Now has teamed with Netflix and the filmmakers of Athlete A, the documentary about the brave gymnasts that put Larry Nassar behind bars and exposed decades of abuse at USA Gymnastics, in order to shine a spotlight on the systemic abuse of adolescent girls in the United States and beyond.

In honor of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we co-hosted a virtual Town Hall event on December 9th.

Moderated by Equality Now’s Global Executive Director Yasmeen Hassan and featuring Athlete A director Bonni Cohen, and Nassar survivor Rachel Denhollander in conversation with leading women’s rights activists and experts, including Dubravka Šimonović the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, the panel explored the systemic nature of sexual abuse and harassment of adolescent girls along with solutions on how to end this cycle of gender-based violence against young women and girls.
