Emma joins Equality Now from the Center for Reproductive Rights, where she worked in global communications. Previously, she was the Communications Manager at a Uganda-based non-profit. She has consulted for a variety of international organizations, including Interpeace and UNESCO South Sudan. Emma holds an M.A. in International Affairs from the New School and a B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of Vermont.
Emma believes that laws are a country's moral framework. If they are exclusionary and discriminatory so goes the culture of the nation; thus, enshrining gender equality in laws and policies is critical to improving the lived reality of ALL people.
Her favorite quote is, "The monologue is her form of revenge," by Flaubert. As someone who believes in the power of words, this quote has always resonated with Emma. It suggests that the very act of speaking, without interruption and from a place of personal authority, can be a revolutionary act--especially for women whose voices have long been silenced or truncated. Her hobbies include reading, writing, and crossword puzzles. Basically, words!
