Executive Assistant to the Global Executive Director
Amie Garrett joined Equality Now in June 2017. Previously, she was the Special Assistant to the President of Hunter College. While volunteering during a summer semester in Malawi, Amie was struck by the lack of information the girls had regarding menstruation, pregnancy and even in the decision-making behind sex. Ever since that experience, it has been her passion to work on giving girls the education and access to information they need about their bodies and their rights. She has a Masters in International Affairs from The New School and a Bachelors in Philosophy and Art from Hunter College, both in New York City USA.
Amie’s “shero” is her late grandmother, who in the late 1940s divorced her first husband, joined Pan Am, rode a motorcycle, traveled the world and lived in London. She always supported Amie’s wanderlust and passion for volunteering and even paid for her first service trip abroad to Nicaragua when she was 16. Amie’s favorite quote is from Michel Foucault: "Where there is power, there is resistance."
Outside of the office, Amie enjoys cooking, photography and Fantasy/Sci-Fi.
