AFESIP was established in 1996 by Somaly Mam, a survivor of sexual exploitation. The organization provides rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration services to survivors of trafficking and sexual exploitation in Cambodia. AFESIP operates three residential centers for survivors, in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Kompong Cham provinces. They offer vocational skills training courses including sewing, weaving, and hairdressing as well as psychological counseling, medical care, and other available therapies.
The organization conducts outreach and education not only to victims of sexual exploitation but also to buyers of sex, emphasizing the importance of addressing demand. In addition, AFESIP provides legal assistance and representation to victims.
