Maya Ibars has been the New York office Legal Fellow since December 2011. She holds a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, where she focused on international human rights and women’s rights, and founded and led the first ever human rights fact-finding mission to Jammu and Kashmir, India. She was also on the board of the Public Interest Law Society for three years and helped select the Law School’s first ever Director of Public Service. Prior to joining Equality Now, Ms. Ibars interned with the International Center for Transitional Justice in Bogotá, Colombia. She holds a B.A. from Brown University in International Relations and worked as a journalist in Vietnam and Miami prior to law school. She speaks fluent French and is highly proficient in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.
