Sapana Pradhan Malla is a member of the Nepalese Constituent Assembly (CA). She is serving as the Gender Advisor to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) and was instrumental in the establishment of the GBV Unit in the OPMCM. She has consistently advocated for human rights, and specifically against discrimination for equal inheritance rights, for reproductive rights, and for women’s participation in the political and public policy process. Ms. Malla is dedicated to ensuring a comprehensive women’s rights agenda within the constitutional framework. She was a driving force behind the passage of legislation to criminalize marital rape, protecting the fundamental reproductive and property rights of women, drafting of the Gender Equality Amendment Act, and a model Human Trafficking Act. In 2008, she was awarded the prestigious Gruber International Women's Rights Awards for her contribution in the field of Women Rights. Ms. Malla is the founder of the Forum for Women, Law & Development (FWLD), an organization dedicated to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women in Nepal and protect and promote human rights through research and public education, advocacy, legal aid, and litigation. She has published extensively on the legal status of women in Nepal and has brought several landmark cases to Nepal’s Supreme Court, where she is an advocate. Ms. Malla has a Master’s Degree in comparative law from the University of Delhi, India and holds a Bachelor in Law from Tribhuwan University.
