Willy Buloso joined Equality Now in November 2016. Prior to that, he worked as Programme Officer at UPR Info’s Africa Regional Office in Nairobi. He also worked as the Head of the Strategic Litigation Unit in the Mail Office of Lawyers without Borders Canada, Human Rights Officer at the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Mali; and Court Interpreter at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, The Netherlands. Willy holds a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Lyon III in France and an International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance from Fordham University in New York, United States. He is fluent in English, French, Swahili and Lingala.
Willy strongly believes that sustainable human development will only be achieved through the creation of conditions for equality so that women and men may realize their full potential. He is inspired by Rebecca Masika Katsuva, a women’s rights activist who dedicated her life to helping rape victims in eastern Congo. His favorite quote is from Oprah Winfrey: “Excellence is the best deterrent to racism and sexism.”
Outside of the office, Willy is passionate about wildlife conservation. He is a proud member of the WWF campaign to save the gorilla habitat and protect Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
