Media Tour In December 2002, Equality Now organized a Media Tour to highlight and honor the efforts of young activists in Ethiopia and Kenya working to stop the practice of FGM in their communities. The tour participants included Genet Girma and Addisie Abosie, a courageous young couple from Kembatta, Ethiopia, who married earlier in 2002 in a groundbreaking ceremony, where they publicly declared their opposition to FGM; Bogaletch Gebre, Founder and Director of the Kembatta Women’s Self-Help Center, Kembatta, Ethiopia; Beatrice and Edna Kandie, two sisters from Eldoret, Kenya who, at 15 and 17, respectively, fled their home to escape FGM, and with the help of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (CHRD), successfully secured a precedent-setting court order prohibiting their father from subjecting them to the practice; and Ken Wafula, Founder and Executive Director of CHRD in Eldoret, Kenya.
